Cross-Country Marathon World Cup #2 marked the end of 2008’s international events. It marked the end for the strangest mountain bike series. The 2008 edition featured two events. The opening round took place in March in Manavgat/Antalya in Turkey. The event ended in Ornans (France) 8 months later. These events are often contested by a unique mix of stars and unknown competitors, who often ride for teams with bizarre names. Hector Paez, a Columbian who won La Ruta’s ultra-marathon ocean-to-ocean race, took overall honours in the France finale. Pia Sundstedt, the defending champion, was heading to Ornans. Pia won her third overall Marathon World Cup title with a sixth-place finish.
