Vote For A Better Singletrack In New York’s Allegany State Park

IMBA encourages mountain bikers in Salamanca to voice their concerns about the trail system at Allegany State Park. Public hearings will be held by the NY State office for Parks on July 8th in Salamanca, and July 9th at Buffalo to discuss the draft management plan. Find details and meeting locations here.

This is your chance to make sure bike access to a sustainable, fun singletrack network. Mountain bikers are asked by IMBA to support the Western New York Mountain Bike Association’s (WNYMBA), which would improve this riding destination through better loop options and more all day epics.

Get involved! Tell New York State Parks you value mountain biking in Allegany State Park. Comments are due by August 7. This already incredible riding destination could use your support!

Ideas for Better Riding
All trails east of ASP2 are open to cyclists, except the Osgood loop.

WNYMBA submitted new trails in a 2007 proposal. These trails are intended to be single-track sustainable.

Trails should not be designated by their use in the master plan. Except for trails that are designated for hiking only, the trails should be open to all users. Allegany State Park should have an open-unless-closed signage policy to make it easier for visitors to know which trails are available.

As appropriate, consider opening up to bicycling selected hiking trails that are currently closed. This will be done on an individual basis. The Blacksnake Mountain and Eastwood Meadows loops could be candidates.

WNYMBA would love to expand its volunteer work in the area to help build the trails. WNYMBA has a long history of successfully working with land managers to create and maintain sustainable trails systems.
